- This piece contains a synthesis of the history of the Justinian Codex, based upon extensive engagement with numerous manuscripts and other ancient, mediaeval and early modern evidence, whether by direct autopsy or through digital images or printed editions. This large and complex body of material is systematically gathered into the annotated Appendix of manuscripts, comprising all the surviving evidence from the sixth to early twelfth centuries plus relevant later items.
