- This 340 pp. book is based on over three years of extensive archival research in repositories in Britain, Germany and the United Stated, including private, heretoforth unpublished archives of German-born art historian Nikolaus Pevsner. Tracing in detail Pevsner?s?positioning of himself as a mediator between German and British cultures through his work as teacher, researcher, editor, broadcaster and art critic, demonstrates the?transnational nature of the discipline of art history in the 20th?century. Rooted in the methodology of ?cultural transfer?, this transdisciplinary monograph examines Pevsner?s long career from the perspective of exile studies and art historiography.
