- This book is the outcome of McHugh's overview and vision for the theory of adapting musicals for the screen. Its content derives from a conference, poster exhibition and film festival McHugh convened/curated in 2014 at the University of Sheffield and the Sheffield Showroom cinema called ‘Stagestruck! Adapting Broadway for the Silver Screen’. Chapters 1, 2, 4, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 15, 17, 21, 22, 26 and 27 are substantially developed versions of papers from that conference, complemented by the other chapters, which were commissioned by McHugh from a diverse range of scholars from across different disciplines and career stages. In summary, McHugh convened the conference, conceptualised the book and obtained the publisher contract, commissioned the chapters, led the peer-review process, and edited the book, evidencing his influence and scrutiny across multiple stages. In addition, McHugh wrote chapters 1 and 19 and the introduction.
