- ‘New Realism: Contemporary British Cinema’ is a 212 page monograph published by Edinburgh University Press that aims to redraw the boundaries of British cinema and redefine realism for the 21st century. It is the first monograph to devote sustained attention to the work of Andrea Arnold, Shane Meadows and Clio Barnard, Duane Hopkins, and Joanna Hogg. The study presents extensive, detailed and wide-ranging textual analysis, generating and drawing on data on shot duration to provide quantitative evidence of the stylistic features that constitute and form realist cinema in contemporary Britain.
