- PhD student (Kandemir) was appointed directly to a lectureship with this paper instrumental to the appointment. His current funded research is on nanocomposite aluminium and magnesium alloys using e.g. SiC, TiB2 and graphene nanoplatelets. Weston has two PhD students from this work, one on Al alloys and one (funded by Thai government) on Mg alloys with a follow-on publication (Ceramics Int 46 (2020) 26956-26969). The work has contributed to a Fellowship (Kandemir) and a series of invited conference presentations and plenaries including ‘What’s new in semi-solid processing?’ at Solidification Processing 17 (decennial international conference - international metallic solidification community).
