- ModeClix 3D printed textile is the result of research into ways in which technology can be used to manufacture clothing and other flexible products. Consisting of small links which are 3D printed as connected flexible panels, the design allows for each link to be disconnected and then reconnected in a variety of ways by hand. ModeClix has been developed into the first example of a reconfigurable textile that can be re-purposed and re-used over again. Garments made using ModeClix for example can be adjusted to fit the customer, the style can be changed to reflect fashion trends and to suit individual preferences. The textile can also be reconfigured to create entirely new garments, bags, and other flexible products. These can be made from either new or previously used ModeClix material. Previously used items are simply taken apart and then reconstructed into a new form. Unveiled in March 2016, a total of 15 garments have been constructed using ModeClix with 50% of these being made by re-purposing the material used to make earlier examples. ModeClix garments and accessories have been exhibited at trade fairs, fashion shows and launch events across Europe, the USA and in South Africa. Each time ModeClix has been exhibited, the garments have been successfully adjusted to fit the body shape of the models concerned and have also been tested in live catwalk scenarios that require a quick-change turnaround. ModeClix has achieved world wide press coverage, and returns approx 19000 results when searched. ModeClix garments have been been short-listed for 3 awards. Commercial interest from Covestro resulted in a research partnership undertaken in Oct/Nov 2016. The output comprises indicative images of the design process, component parts, the full garment.
