- Double-weighted statement
- This book represents the better part of a decades research. It has gone from its initial inception as a PhD thesis on Roman participation in the Indian Ocean trade to further research and developments during the course of my subsequent academic career. This book seeks not only to reassess and challenge some longstanding assumptions (stretching back over a century) in the light of new evidence that has come to light (as of the date of publication), but also to offer new approaches in how we assess the nature, operation and socio-economic impact of this trade.
