- This book is the result of 22 months of fieldwork carried out over a period of nine years. This included archival and ethnographic research, and the collection of life histories (using Amarhic as well as English). The primary research was then contextualised and theorised against relevant fields of secondary literature. This was necessary in order to generate a historical understanding street life and apply this to present-day experiences of marginality in a context of urban development.
