- This 346pp monograph shows size, range and complexity, using hard-to-access materials. Both authors contributed equally. Several year’s work, in six rich and complex UK and Ireland archives, included primary research of thousands of pages of manuscript sources, analysis of 300+ extensive parliamentary papers and 50+ printed primary sources. As this multi-faced engagement was a comparative diasporic analysis, it also required locating and analysing US, Canadian, and Australian primary sources. The book covers over 100 years, with original research in each decade. A protracted, challenging and complicated engagement: the range of data evaluated is evident in the footnotes and bibliography.
