- Double-weighted statement
- Aršāma and his World: The Bodleian Letters in Context (2020), is a large multi-authored project published in three volumes. Intellectual leadership for this project, which started in 2009, came from Tuplin (Liverpool) and Ma (Columbia): the output provides a definitive study of the collection of letters associated with Aršāma, satrap of Egypt in the Persian Empire. Tuplin’s contributions in the current cycle include a very substantial editorial and co-ordinating role (sections returned in REF2021 are: Vol. I: pp.287-373; Vol. II: complete; Vol. III: pp.75-386) alongside three new individual contributions (Vol. I: pp.287-299 & 340-373; Vol. III: pp.291-328).

- Additional information
- Includes significant material published prior to 1 January 2014:
Aršāma and his World: The Bodleian Letters in Context (2020), is a major three-volume work involving 22 contributors, edited by Tuplin and J.Ma (Columbia). Since some sections previously published on the Bodleian library website were submitted to REF 2014, the pages returned in REF 2021 exclude all previously published material. The entirely new content published in 2020 and submitted to REF 2021 is: Vol. I 287-373, Vol. II (complete), and Vol. III 75-386. The new material, the culmination of Tuplin and Ma’s intellectual leadership of the project, includes three new contributions featuring Tuplin: I 287-99, I 340-73, III 291-328.
Information about research process and/or content:
Aršāma and his World: The Bodleian Letters in Context (2020), is a large multi-authored project published in three volumes. It is returned here on the basis that it is possible to submit ‘parts of books’ (see Guidance on Submissions, REF 2019/001, paragraph 264c, I – see also the reference to ‘(parts of) books’ in the table on p. 103). In order to avoid any overlap with material previously published before 2014 (see separate statement on relation to material published prior to 1 January 2014), only entirely new material published in this current REF cycle is returned for consideration in REF 2021. The sections returned for consideration in REF2021 are: Vol. I: pp.287-373; Vol. II: complete; Vol. III: pp.75-386) including three new individual contributions from Tuplin (Vol. I: pp.287-299 & 340-373; Vol. III: pp.291-328).
