- The paper reported the first experimental evidence of strain ratchetting near a fatigue crack
tip from two independent studies, as a result of concerted efforts from Universities of
Portsmouth and Manchester, Rolls-Royce plc and Ecole Polytechnique. The work has spurred
further studies elsewhere (Kasvayee et al, Mater Sci Eng A 2016 & 2017; Paul, Eng Fract
Mech 2016; Barbera et al, FFEMS 2017); and led to further development at UoP (Lu et al,
Exp Mech 2016; Zhu et al FFEMS 2016; Wigger et al, IJF 2018; Tong et al FFEMS 2018).
