- A Cockney Catullus is a 338-page monograph resulting from eight years of research. It is the first and only treatment of the reception of the Roman poet in Romantic-era Britain. It draws upon an extensive and formally diverse range of primary materials. In the early 19th century Catullus arrived fully formed in English literature and was used by writers of several political persuasions in complex ways. The book makes several important discoveries of previously overlooked (because hard-to-access) material, and offers fresh critical insights on some of the most important literary figures of the day.
