- This work reports DSP-based real-time reconfigurable optical transceivers for low-cost, adaptive optical access networks supporting 5G services. The network can rapidly adapt its functionality and performance to optimally serve prevailing traffic conditions, thus enabling the cost-effective realisation of converged fixed and mobile networks. This work was presented by invitation at the International Conference on Signal Processing & Integrated Network 2018, India, and contributed to: a) the capture of £1.2m ERDF SMARTExpertise-funded DESTINI project, and b) the ERDF-funded £6m DSP Centre; and c) a foundation enabling the Centre to lead its partners to establish rural area 5G testbeds.
