The University of Gloucestershire has been affected by COVID-19 pandemic like all other Universities. Since March 2020 we have had in place a COVID Programme Board Chaired by the Vice Chancellor focusing on all areas of our business, including the wellbeing of our students and staff. We have recognised that the additional demands and constraints during this past 12 months have disrupted plans of our research students and researchers, and we have sought to strike the right balance between protecting each other and mitigating the impacts on student learning, research and academic staff development. For our research students, we have conducted examinations remotely where the student provides consent to do so. This has worked well. We have also provided guidance to students on how we can mitigate the impact on their research programmes, and how we can support them to interrupt studies where sufficient progress is not possible. For our researchers, we have supported them to continue their research programmes when permitted by the Government Guidelines. In some cases there has been a significant impact on plans, often involving plans for impact between March and July (i.e., the end of the impact period), and we would like to particularly draw the Panels’ attention to the following: For UoA 31 (Theology and Religious Studies) one of the Impact Case studies had planned an exhibition in national Cathedrals. This proved to be impossible. Therefore, excellent attempts were made to engage the public through a virtual exhibition but this could not replicate the excellent plans in place. Finally, because of COVID challenges, we couldn’t meet the deadline of 5th March 2021 to amend the tolerances for the financial data in REF4b, and we have therefore had to add the basic detail about the differences into REF 5a as per guidance. The full table showing the differences for UoAs 12, 23, 31 is provided below.
